The database topology and power system modeling contain 21 Balancing Authorities with interchange tariffs, ancillary service requirements and capacity demand curves set based on market rules. Within those Balancing Authorities are 78 Areas with zonal transmission limits and demand forecasts (including demand response) through 2050. There are over 16,000 existing and planning generating resources represented. Reporting is easily generated from the state/province level down to the individual area level depending on the user’s area of study interest.
Updates in the Fall 2020 database release contain extensive carbon pricing representation including Western Climate Initiative (WCI) and RGGI. The database also reflects the numerous initiatives by states, cities and business to reflect carbon reduction and/or net zero emissions. Specific renewable technology updates include Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) for battery technology for Nevada and Virginia. The database includes RPS for all other states and reflects carveouts for batteries, off-shore wind and solar as well as REC and SREC markets either at the state or regional level.
